CPRL is pleased to announce that Millie Sparks has graciously accepted the position of New Bern-Craven County Public Library Manager.  For the past two months, Millie Sparks has served as the interim Manager of the New Bern Library and as the Circulation Manager.  Her future initiatives for the New Bern-Craven County Library include expanding outreach programming and creating a volunteer program.

Mrs. Sparks has over eleven years of library experience.   She began her journey as a Library Assistant at the Wilson County Public Library as a paraprofessional while she pursued her Master of Library Science through N.C. Central University. She received her master's in library science in May of 2014, graduating summa cum laude and began working as the
Assistant-Branch Manager at Western Carteret Public Library in Carteret County.  Mrs. Sparks spent four years working for Pitt Community College as the Outreach and Collection Development Librarian.  Most recently, she worked as a media clerk at Pactolus School in Greenville, NC where she added to her library knowledge by learning to catalog using their integrated library system.

Several years ago, she was honored to be selected to attend the North Carolina Library Association's Leadership Conference in Black Mountain, NC, where she networked with other librarians and paraprofessionals who were interested in pursuing leadership positions.  She has presented at both North Carolina Library Association (NCLA) and North Carolina Community

College Library conferences (NCCCLA) and enjoys sharing her experiences with other librarians.

A native to Eastern North Carolina, Millie makes her home these days in Chocowinity, North Carolina, and enjoys her commute to work each morning as a time to reflect on the day.  Her hobbies include reading, writing short stories, poetry and humorous essays that poke gentle fun at her husband of the past fourteen years.

Mrs. Sparks first day as Manager will be September 1, 2021.
