Take the Summer Reading Challenge and win prizes!
Register for the reading race at your local library or online. We have categories for early readers, children, teens, and adults, so everyone can get in on the challenge! You will receive a reading log, with sections to fill in for every 15 minutes of reading for early lit/children, and every 30 minutes of reading for teens/adults. EVERY person who completes their reading log will win a prize! Prizes will be announced soon! After you have completed your reading log - keep reading! You can earn "brag tags" for further reading accomplishments, and the top readers from each branch will be eligible for the grand prize drawing!
To register, visit your local library branch to receive your goodie bags and registration logs! You can also register online by clicking here (but you must go in to the library to receive a goodie bag).
You MUST fill out the CPRL paper reading logs to be eligible for library prizes, but if you are not able to visit the library, you can also participate in the fun with ReadSquared - an app that allows readers to log their reading time to earn digital badges, unlock games, and participate in theme-related challenges. Frequently Asked Questions:
ALL ages can participate in the Summer Reading Challenge! We have reading logs available for four different age categories:
Early Readers (birth to preschool - reading with your children is encouraged!)
Children (K-5th - both independent and family reading time counts!)
Teens (middle and high school)
Adult (18+)
Prizes are given out and tailored to each age group as well!
Any time you are engaged with books or reading, that counts! Books, audiobooks, comic books, board books, reading to your children, news articles, magazines, fan fiction, you name it! (We'll even count reading the cereal box, but please come in to the library so we can help you find something more interesting!)
You don't have to read books checked out from the library, but of course we're always happy to help you find your next read!
Nope, the Summer Reading Challenge and Summer Reading Programs are separate tracks, but of course we encourage you to do both! The Summer Reading Challenge is an independent reading task, which can be worked on anywhere, anytime.
Our Summer Reading Programs are themed events to keep you engaged in learning and fun during our regular library hours. Anyone is invited to attend our events, even if you aren't signed up for the Reading Challenge. We have separate programming for all age groups (even adults!), so check out our calendar at mycprl.org/srp
Each of our reading logs have a game board pathway, with each space representing 15 minutes of reading time for early readers and children, and 30 minutes of reading time for teens and adults. When you have completed that amount of time, color in one space on your reading log path. Complete both sides of the reading log to complete the challenge!
Bring your completed reading log in to your local library to get your completion prize! You can continue reading on a second reading log. After their first reading log is turned in, kids can earn Brag Tags for completing one additional side of the reading log. There are prizes and drawings for the top readers at every library branch, as well as some awesome regional grand prizes!
You may also turn in your reading logs online by clicking here, but you must come in to the library to receive your completion prize.
Misplaced your reading log? It happens! You can stop by any library branch to pick up another copy, or email webmaster@mycprl.org to receive a digital copy.
If you haven't registered yet and are looking for the reading logs - simply fill out the online registration and it will direct you to a link to download your reading logs upon completion! Or stop by any library branch to get a copy.
